Description

I used mixed media in trying to capture this piece with a minimalist approach by using sand,glue acrylic paint, gesso and modeling paste.
Painting this piece was my reaction to the historical aesthetic of the modern period that took place in the mid 20th century and is currently being revived in this 21st century. It is a thoughtful and introspective image of how I view current trends. Modern art helps us to understand ourselves by looking at the basic things that are important in our lives amidst these trying times. These artwork reflects my own reality that life is basic, simple and streamlined to truly appreciate the things around us.
The technique I used was layering the materials then adding another dimension to achieve form, function and beauty. I tried to simplify the process of transforming the vacant canvas to an artistic expression of my ideas on life.

Concept

I have always been interested in Birds and their synergy with nature. One of the most interesting birds is the Sunbird because they always are seen with flowers and other ornamental plants. My concept here was to portray the Sunbird amongst the plants they usually interact with so people will be drawn to their colorful feathers amidst the plants and wonder at the beauty of nature.
This artwork is rendered in colored pencils on Fabriano artistico hot pressed paper. The size is 20 cm width x 25.5 cm height.
