Description

In this piece I used acrylic paints on canvas sheet. I used acrylics because I wanted a more stylized approach or representation of my subject matter.
My first thought when I wanted to this artwork was to do to make sure that beauty surrounds the calla Lily by putting a bokeh background. The calla lilies depicted should be beautiful since calla in Greek means beauty. I read that calla lilies were a very important flower in world religions since it signifies rebirth. I wanted to portray them in it's full glory and show that through the use of secondary colors in my color scheme while showcasing their beauty. It symbolizes new beginnings for nature and humans alike, so everyone can relate to it.
The technique I used was a semi- stylized contemporary style. It was rendered in this way to make it visually pleasing and modern in approach.

Concept

I have always been interested in Birds and their synergy with nature. One of the most interesting birds is the Sunbird because they always are seen with flowers and other ornamental plants. My concept here was to portray the Sunbird amongst the plants they usually interact with so people will be drawn to their colorful feathers amidst the plants and wonder at the beauty of nature.
This artwork is rendered in colored pencils on Fabriano artistico hot pressed paper. The size is 20 cm width x 25.5 cm height.
