Shonan is depicted in a unique pointillist style with the subject of the evening scene of Kugenuma Beach. The artist recalls, "Recently, as I have been gradually analyzing the major trends in the world and the situation in Japan now and in the future, I have begun to feel that this is not a scenery that can be taken for granted, and I cannot help but feel how precious the present time is, when I can be at peace.
About the technique
The artist was influenced by the pointillism technique advocated by Seurat in the 1880s. The intellectual, cold, and mechanical expression that leaves an indelible impression once seen is so appealing that he taught himself to create pointillist paintings. He juxtaposes acrylic painting materials on the canvas in dots with a fine brush tip without mixing colors, and mixes the colors on the viewer's retina, aiming for an expression in which the work is completed in the viewer's visual perception. I try to express black (shadow) without using black and (light) without using white.
