Antelope Canyon holds its esteemed status as a mecca for photographers, primarily attributed to the historic sale of an image captured by a renowned photographer. That iconic photograph commanded an unprecedented 6.5 million dollars – a milestone in the realm of photography.
My initial encounter with a replica of that photograph occurred years before its record-breaking sale (it was priced at around $85,000 then if my memory serves correctly). Yet, the image had already kindled my desire to witness the scene in my own eyes one day.
When the opportunity to travel across the United States arose, I ensured to include the Canyon on my itinerary. Owing to pressing professional commitments, however, my travel arrangements were hastily organized, lacking thorough research and preparation, and consequently, my initial visit to the Canyon yielded unsatisfactory results – I found myself in the wrong section of the Canyon and unable to capture the desired images.
Fortunately, the subsequent year brought another chance to explore the Canyon. Although it was not the most optimal time of the year to visit there, I was determined to redeem my previous experience by enrolling in a photography tour, intent on squeezing every possible opportunity to capture satisfactory images.
This time, as I ventured deeper into the right section of the Canyon, I was struck by the imposing yet breathtaking beauty of nature. I even found myself precisely where the renowned photograph had been captured – it was surreal. Fully immersed in the moment, I diligently captured as many images as possible and finally secured the desired ones. It was a truly exceptional experience.
“Wave” is one of my favourites within my Canyon series, as I find it represents the essence of the Canyon perfectly.
It was later published on 1x.com, the world's largest online photo gallery.
