    Description

This work is made by a technique called blown glass. Glass is a soft and fluid material that melts at about 1200℃. In its soft state, glass can be inflated like a soap bubble. There is not a single visible object in the glass ball that is created when it is smoothly inflated. However, I believe that the time and the place where the glass ball was inflated should exist as a trace. The structure inside the sphere in this work is the result of the tension generated when the glass is inflated. This structure is the skeleton of the sphere, and at the same time, it is the trajectory created by the process of the sphere's expansion. We hope that this work will allow viewers to enjoy the unfamiliar form and beauty of glass, a familiar material.

  • About this artist

    Concept

Glass is cold and hard. However, molten glass is hot and soft. It is inorganic, but its fluid movement makes it seem as if it is alive. I can't help but feel that the glass is like something that existed before living things took shape. When I breathe into the glass, it expands smoothly. It is just like watching a time lapse of the growth process of a plant. There is nothing inside the sphere that has expanded in this way. However, there is supposed to be time and the trajectory of the expansion. The structure of this work is the skeleton of the sphere, and at the same time, the trajectory of the sphere as it expands is expressed using the tension of the glass as it expands.
