Australia is burning, Charity Collage, 40x40 cm (16”x16” inches)
This collage was part of a charity project initiated by the artist in January 2020, during the devastating forest fires in Australia. In response to the tragedy, she crafted an artwork depicting a burning landscape, endangering the life of Australia’s most iconic inhabitants: kangaroos. You can see the fiery sky reflecting in the ocean, like a symbol of powerlessness in the face of Nature’s fury.
The sale of the original artwork and numerous prints allowed her to contribute €145 to the Wildlife Victoria association, aiding the wildlife affected by the fires. Additionally, the project funded the replanting of 140 trees to support the restoration of the ravaged landscapes.
Art has the power to transcend aesthetics and take on a greater responsibility to make the world a better place. By supporting important causes through art, we can make a positive impact and foster a deeper connection between creativity and compassion.
The creation of this collage involved meticulously hand-cutting approximately 150 pieces of magazines, each chosen with care to bring the landscape to life. The technique employed in this artwork is one the artist invented, adding a unique touch that sets it apart from conventional collages.
As you explore this piece, the artist invites you to consider the significance of art in supporting meaningful initiatives.
