    Description

The "Sleeping in the Waves" depicts a girl sleeping as if she were swaying in the waves. The sleeping posture with her arms outstretched is that of a child sleeping comfortably. The delicate lines dare to retain the touch of pencil, which matches very well with the gentle colors drawn with transparent watercolor paints. The hair is layered with various colors to create a sense of unity throughout. The slightly open hands, the transparency of the skin, the eyelashes and lips, and other details are painted with great care.

  • About this artist

    Concept

Illustrator mari is a Japanese illustrator. Her illustrations capture the casual everyday life of children and babies. From her illustrations, you can feel the soft touch of a child's skin and even their breath.

She says that she has loved drawing pictures since she was a child. She learned drawing in high school and studied interior design at Kyoto Art College.
However, after graduating from university, she gave up on the idea of making illustration and painting her career, and went to work for a local company.
After getting married and having a baby, she became a full-time housewife in 2012, and started drawing again as a hobby while raising her three daughters.
She says that one of her friends was a big reason why she started to want people to see her paintings. The friend, who she became friends with after raising her children, praised her paintings for their "warmth and beauty," and said, "These paintings are needed by people and have great value. It's a shame that no one knows about it," she said. She said, "It pushed me to always look backward.
In addition to hand-drawn illustrations using watercolors and transparent watercolors, she also started to draw digitally using a computer, and started to draw her daily life with her children in the style of line drawings and watercolors with a pencil touch.
She began to expand her activities by exhibiting booths with face-to-face portraits at flea markets and selling her skills on the websites "Coconara" and "minne".
She says that the aforementioned friends have been very supportive, actively using her work as gifts for their friends and helping her find shops to put her flyers in, and she says, "I can't see them very often now that I've moved far away, but I want to tell them how hard I'm working the next time I see them. I want to report to you that I am doing so well!
She captures the natural scenery and natural but precious moments that she sees in her daily life as a mother and creates a picture of them. She posts her latest illustrations on her Instagram.
