The old, rural Japan (from the Edo period), is for me the country, which conveys the spirit of Zen most clearly. The closeness to nature, the art of reduction to the bare essentials and to appreciate the value of simplicity...are just a few aspects that fascinate me so much about this country...here in this work, I was so taken by the mood and the aesthetics of a film scene that I wanted to capture this painterly. Even the music and soundscape went into the brushstroke. A meditative work, what the soothing and contemplative spirit of this scene and the "Being in Zen" while painting would like to convey.
In order to be able to concentrate fully on the expression of the brushstroke and the creative elements of this scene, I started using ink in different dilutions of water. Later colored with watercolor.
