Concept

Hello, my name is Abel Amaya, I am a visual artist from El Salvador. My style of painting is inspired by different pictorial currents which influenced me in some way during the stage of my artistic education, where I had an approach to avant-garde stories such as impressionism, expressionism, abstract art, pop art, among others. I take part of what was done in the past to bring it to the present and create my pictorial language, in my works I mix different techniques in acrylic and oil on canvas, making use of stains and textures that give shape to the characters I recreate.
My work starts from the idea of generating new forms and sensations using what is already known and established; doing the action of destroying and reinterpreting what we are all used to see, such as the human figure, the portrait and cartoon characters that accompany us since our childhood and are already part of our imaginary globally. I make a deconstructive reading of these forms in order to get away from the habit of how reality is normally perceived, which in a certain way generates monotony. Therefore, through my paintings I seek to create interesting scenarios that go beyond the rational and generate a different aesthetic experience, as a way to give a respite to the everyday visual environment.
