    Description

'Living the question of existence' continues Chris’ interweaving of the sublime and transience, to ponder life’s purpose and meaning. The wandering figure surrounded by falling wings dramatises the question of meaning in the midst of life’s inevitable decline, which is poeticised by the intense blue space, picturing a depth and significance to the experience.

  • About this artist

    Concept

Chris paints existential and spiritually evocative artworks full of longing and flawed beauty. With the use of a consciously restrained palette of gold, blue and sometimes red, which gives his work a religious and spiritual overtone, Chris draws on pop art, abstract expressionism, op art and surrealism to create works that prompt reflection on what it means to be human in the world. Often populating his works with uncanny, weathered figures and forms that are repeated, falling, interlocked and wandering, his works express the struggle with transience and a desire for transcendence and redemption. The contrast of his painting’s opulent palette and the forlorn figures and forms that inhabit them spawns a dialogue with mortality and the haunting sense of purposelessness that shadows our modern age.
