Concept

While strolling along the beach, you may come across driftwood that looks somewhat like an animal. I carve driftwood to embody this inspiration. I use the interesting characteristics of driftwood, such as bark, cracks, and branching, to create sculptures that resemble animals. Driftwood sculptures cannot be made entirely from driftwood because of the shape of the driftwood. I feel that there is a "beauty lacking" that is born from not being able to create everything. The texture and shape created by the passage of nature are unique. That is why no two pieces are alike.

Biography

After graduating from high school, he worked at a furniture craftsman's workshop in Yokohama for training. At the age of 25, he returned to his hometown and opened his own antique furniture store. Later, his interest expanded beyond furniture to include space design, and he started his own space design business for stores. In search of an ideal space, he opened his own coffee shop. Then, he encountered driftwood sculpture. Feeling a common attraction to the beauty of the weathering of driftwood created by nature and the beauty of the aging process of antique furniture, he stepped into the world of driftwood sculpture.
