Mariano Álvarez is a multifaceted artist, painter, composer and screenwriter.
He was born in Buenos Aires in 1970, but when his father was very young he took the family to El Chocón, in the province of Neuquén, in the Argentinean Patagonia, where one of the most important hydroelectric dams in the country is located. This is where his artistic training began, the source of his inspiration and the genesis of the spirit of his work. The hydroelectric power station in the middle of the desert, the force of nature combined with monumental engineering works; the hand of man intervening in the landscape, modifying the course of the rivers, the layout of the sierras and the vast desert to generate the energy necessary for the development of life.
Here Mariano was self-taught by his art- and music-loving parents, in an environment without television. This was very important for the development of his imagination and creativity. During his time in El Chocón, the Álvarez family's house was the cultural meeting point of the small town, where engineers, artists and workers from different parts of the world came together.
The study of energy will be a constant search throughout his life, both in the artistic and philosophical fields. This quest would include self-taught and experimental training.
Intermittently, the artist's life will oscillate between Patagonia and Buenos Aires, the city where he currently lives. The great metropolis is also present in his work. A marvellous and complex city, an energetic pole inhabited by many people who come and go, by thousands and thousands of consciousnesses and thoughts that travel at a speed faster than the speed of light, each one unique and at the same time only a small fragment of the great universal consciousness.
