Born in 1956 in South Australia. John started taking photographs with a 620 Kodak Box Brownie in 1969 at the age of 12yo. He was obsessed with photography, studying photography at High School, he went on to the Art School of SA under tutelage of Ed Douglas, Fiona Hall and Bill Nieve, great photographers and artist in their own right. John worked professionally as a commercial photographer until 1990.

He was a founding member of the Developed Image Photography Gallery and SA Photographic Workshop Group based in Adelaide, South Australia in early 1982. He exhibited his images in Adelaide, Sydney and Paris, during this time and sold 12 large Art B&W photos from an 1984 Festival of Arts exhibition to the SA Law Courts.

John stopped doing Photography during the 90’s only returning in the early 2000’s taking up Digital photography using various DX format cameras, settling on Nikon and recently falling in love with a Fujifilm X100T & X-Pro3 digital viewfinder cameras (he always used Nikon, Leica and Hassleblad film cameras in the 80’s).

Johns love of nature took him back to University in the late 90’s and he studied Conservation Biology at Flinders University in South Australia and has worked since in the Conservation industry and has been focusing on Bird Photography and recently returning to Art Photography (Landscape and abstract/surreal images), Urban and Street Photography.

John has recently started working with again with B&W film format again using 4x5 Linhof and Chamonix large format field cameras and 120 medium format Hassleblad 500cm’s.

After many years of photography, John is proud of his first Art Photography Portfolio Book “The Dream Theatre” published by Moonglow Publishing.
