Finding my identity as an artist wasn’t an easy task. Just as many artist, I wanted my art to have purpose and to evoke emotions, but that was all I knew when I first decided to be a painter. I had no clear motive or source of inspiration. I didn’t know what I wanted to paint until I took the time to ask myself. I then realized that I had to take the time to figure out myself as an artist and in doing so, I endedup with artwork that tells a story about me as the artist De’John. Searching for myself and a purpose within my means “Truth”, I found that there is “Beauty” in everything, I realized that I have always tried to be the “Gentleman”, that I want to make “Timeless” art and recognized that although learning about myself could take a life time, I had reached a “Milestone.”
