Description

When I created WAVE LIGHT, I was drawing on moments in the surf where the water can look two totally different tones within just a few feet. The top of the water pulls golden sunlight in its reflection with horizontal lines rushing towards the break line where the wave dives into cold waves with webbed foam in vertical. Working in multiple layers, this painting has tremendous depth up close, much as open waters do. The final clear layer of resin I used pulls in light and lets it suspend and dance overhead, setting the gold tones aglow and deepening the richness of the dark blue. It also creates an "infinity pool" effect where the resin domes and meets the hardwood sides that are hand sanded and oiled to highlight their natural beauty,

Concept

Resin is the consistency of honey before it sets. As I pour and manipulate the thick liquid resin, for a moment in time I experience, like a fleeting sunset, the beauty that the laws of physics creates on the canvas, just before it disappears and reinvents itself, settling on the final outcome of the painting. I'm both the creator of the scene and the witness to it developing on its own. Every minute as that happens is special, and never to be repeated before it changes into its final form. As a former surfer, this reminds me of lying on the board in the water and catching a glimpse of a never to be replicated moment where a small wave peaks and crests and water foams about only to disappear. I want to capture moments tied in their core to nature. Resin lets me freeze those moments in time.

If you are concerned about repayment costs, such as when renting a house, wall pins and hooks that do not leave noticeable hole marks are available at major DIY Store and art supply stores.

If you want to hang a canvas with a hook, a hook type with a long hooking surface, such as a V-shaped type is recommended.

If there is a string on the back of the canvas or the back of the frame, you can hang it with a pin type that has a short hooking surface.
