In the hills of a quiet New England town, where I spent much of my childhood, there lies a massive boulder the size of a house. A stone staircase leads you to the top of the 20 foot high boulder where you will find a steeple made of solid white marble. A steeple is indeed an odd thing to find atop a boulder, but this steeple was placed there many years ago as a monument. I climbed on the monument many times as a kid, and the smooth white marble of the monument to this day brings to mind memories of adventure and innocence. Although the monument was placed on this boulder to commemorate the memory of one of the town's early ministers, it provided me with a safe haven of joy and exploration that only adds to its significance. This painting explores not only the textures I remember from climbing on the stone, but conveys the feeling of relaxation and adventure that comes from a summer away in the mountains.
This simple, yet intricate abstract painting combines both minimalism and impressionism. The thick textures of refractive paint give depth to the white, gold, and silver color palette. This painting has a classic, yet very modern feel.
"River of Gold" was created on a .7" thick canvas, with the painting continuing around the edges. It arrives unframed.
