NAITO creates Japanese paintings using natural mineral pigments as the main material along with metal leaf and acrylic paint. Especially, he uses the colour blue as the base tone and uses natural mineral pigments that are coarsely ground. Those tiny stone particles interact with each other in a complex way and the reaction creates deep colour tones.
The concept of NAITO’s work is "prayer". His inspiration comes from moments like these...
“When I look up at the moon shining in the sky at night, sometimes I look back on my own life.
Or I don’t even have words when I see the perfect blue sky and the shining clouds. In such moments, I feel tranquillity within me that is like a prayer in silence. I hope to provide a quiet and peaceful moment similar to prayer to those who see my works.”
When I was a student, I majored in metal craft. I was fascinated by the changes in color of heated copper plates, and after graduation I studied the changes in color of metal foil. Later, while enjoying the shading of ink in ink painting, I became addicted to the world of Japanese painting with mineral pigments. Currently, I am creating art works using mineral pigments, foils and sumi ink, and judging prefectural general art exhibitions. In the future, I would like to focus on presenting my work in solo exhibitions and other activities. I am engaged in creative activities in search of a world where I can feel a sense of tranquility, even if only a little, away from the fast-changing and increasingly uncertain nature of everyday life.
