Zaza Tsitskishvili (Tsitska) was born in Tbilisi in 1965. After graduating from Tbilisi State Academy of Arts in 1991, his first exhibition was in a state museum, The Central House of Artists. Subsequently Zaza's works were shown in the National Gallery (former "Blue Gallery") within the framework of group exhibitions. The crucial moment in his artistic biography is the collaboration with Alexander (Shura) Bandzeladze. Naturally, what followed was an interest in the essence of abstract expressionism and its practices. However, Zaza Tsitska is permanently inspired with the figurative image and its iconographic fundamentals. Figurative works are characterised by expressiveness. Exactly this defines his style and distinguishes his
paintings. The artist demonstrates his vision through personages painted with an at-first-glance naïve manner and simplicity.

Zaza Tsitska creates big-scale, utterly expressionistic canvases with an emphasis on precise explanation and openness. His paintings have often been exhibited in New York, Paris, Madrid and widely across Europe. They are in private and corporative collections in a number of countries—for example the Nikoloz Kekelidze collection and the Deutsche Bank and Dresden Bank collections. His works have been exhibited in all of Georgia's state museums and the most prominent galleries in Georgia.
