to be updated My creative process starts with a focused absorption and observation of the natural space of seascapes, landscapes and skyscapes. Creating my images is a process that includes both observation and imagination - I tend to focus on the flowing aspect of the composition rather than adding details - I reduce the contents to a minimal keeping the more ethereal presence of what I am choosing to paint. Coming from a classically trained background in music I compare the visual process to that of music and sounds - like the melody aspect . Like playing sequential sounds, the notes vibrate leaving a space in between one and the other - I am interested in all that space or shape between one sound and another. Creating a painting is to me is to compose colours in the space of the canvas where they finally vibrate and resonates with our perception thus allowing the image to go beyond one's own thoughts and feelings.

CLAUDIA DE GRANDI
Brazilian-born Claudia De Grandi is an artist working variously in painting, photography, printmaking and video installation.
A classically trained musician, upon moving to England she studied fine art at the University of Greenwich, and gained a Masters Degree in Transnational Art at the Camberwell College, University of the Arts London.
Known for her collaborative visual performances with musicians, notably with Joshua Tennant, she created the Visual Sounds project during 2015 - 2017.
From 2017 onwards De Grandi has been concentrating on large scale paintings based on her studies and observations of the sea, from the shores of East Sussex and Northern California.
Her latest series Waves & Horizons was exhibited to critical acclaim in her London debut at Art Project Bermondsey in 2018.
De Grandi’s works are increasingly attracting art world and press attention via a series of international exhibitions and performance / installations, with her paintings finding eager collectors in New York, Milan, Tokyo and London.

She recently co-curated the exhibition Axis: London Milano with Alan Rankle for Fabbrica Del Vapore in Milan.

Projects for 2019 include The New Exhibition at RE Centre in Hammersmith, London curated by Leah Wood. A Wave of Dreams curated by Susan de Muth - the inaugural exhibition at the Arts Lab, St Leonards.
A survey of her work is planned for Fabbrica del Vapore Milan in Autumn this year.
A recent publication Waves&Horizons on her work include essays by Alan Rankle, John Stezaker, Tom Burke CBE and Olga Mamonova is also available to order.

She lives and works in the Hastings area, East Sussex, UK.
