I studied Japanese painting at university. The genre of Japanese paintings may not be well known outside Japan. I believe that the Suibokuga paintings(suiboku-ga) by artists such as Sesshū Tōyō(雪舟 等楊), which are in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, are the essence of Japanese painting. Suibokuga painting(suiboku-ga) also has a strong relationship with ``Zen''. What I aim for in my lithographs is the fusion of improvisation, which is characteristic of Suibokuga painting(suiboku-ga), and calculated precision. I also hope that the spiritual world that Zen aims for will be expressed in modern lithograph works.
