Concept

This is Lake Atitlan, said to be the most beautiful lake in the world, in my home country of Guatemala. The character [Gino], based on a monkey that lives in Tikal, a large city of the Mayan civilization, is Gino is playing with a drone, a symbol of modern civilization. The canvas is decorated with gorgeous colors inspired by the "wipil," the national costume that symbolizes the country of Guatemala.

Biography

Monserrat
Lives and works in Oita, Japan. Born in the Republic of Guatemala.
As of November 2022, he is an "86-year-old" painter.

In Oita Prefecture, where I live now, there is a natural habitat of numerous monkeys called Takasaki Mountain.
And I remembered that in Guatemala, where I am from, there were many monkeys in the Tikal Jungle.
The monkey I named "Gino" in my painting represents the intersection of two cultures (Guatemala and Japan).
