コンセプト

「アニメ、マンガ文化」と「お笑い文化」の融合。

笑いの存在やその発生のメカニズムに興味がある。
笑いが発生する瞬間、時空を満たす不思議な幸福感にも似た感覚を味わう時がある。
それらが何か分からないが、それらを「笑いの素」だとすると、それらを視覚的に形を与える事は出来るだろうか？と私は考えた。
「お笑い」の核である「面白い」をビジュアルアートで表現してみたい。そして空間を笑いで満たしてみたい。それが私の作品を作る動機になっている。

さらに70年代日本に生まれた私は、マンガやアニメやお笑いの文化に影響を受けて育った。
そこで、私はそれら「日本で独自に発展した文化」と「日本の伝統的な日本画や書」さらに、西洋美術やグラフィティー文化なども融合させ、新たな表現の重層化が出来ないか考えた。

近年の作品は、これらの発想をベースに、「グラフィティ文化」、「日本の伝統的書」、「マンガのオノマトペ」、「縄文以来の呪術的文様」などを融合させ、さらに抽象化させる事により、現代の記号と言語の形態学的なお笑いを追求している。

また私は、「形態のメタモルフォーゼ」つまり形態の変容は、ビジュアルアートにおいて、笑い発生のメカニズムと密接に関係があるという仮説を立てている。

「形態のメタモルフォーゼ」は、キュビズムを皮切りにフランシスベーコンやダリらのシュールレアリズムを経て、サブチャーの世界にも浸透していく。
アメリカカートゥーンのトムとジェリーに代表される、形態の破壊などは、それらを輸入文化として受け入れた日本アニメ界やマンガ界(特に赤塚ギャグ漫画の系譜や寄生獣等々の変容する肉体描写)に受け継がれて行った。
それら「形態のメタモルフォーゼ」の技法は、破壊的なメカニズムと作用し、笑いを発生させる。そしてそれらは、日本の現代お笑い文化にも深く根付いている、と私は考える。
それら東西を越え融合、発展してきた笑いを巡るメタモルフォーゼの技法は、自らの作品においても、有効な手段になり得ると私は思っている。

なぜお笑い文化とアニメ、マンガ文化の融合が必要か？
それは、アートの目的の一つが、窮屈な日常から我々を自由に導く事だとすると、マンガやお笑いは、（西洋では子供の文化に属するが、日本では大人でも嗜好する文化である）最も稚拙で最も幼稚なものなので、それらを融合する事により発生するエネルギーは、既存の社会構造やヒエラルキーをより破壊する力になりうるのではないか？我々をそれら既存の構造から解き放ち、自由に導く事が出来るのでは無いか？
と私は考えたからである。
