When I was a student at the Karel de Grote College of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, I began to study the method of automatic drawing in a class on depicting human models. I wanted to draw the model more accurately, so I started doing blind drawings. This is a technique where you keep looking at the model without looking at your hand or the paper you are drawing on. The next logical step for me was to draw without looking at reality, and since 1996 my main working method has been Écriture Automatique. I start with a blank piece of paper and immediately draw with ink. I don't actually have any idea what I'm going to draw. That is exactly the state of mind I want or need to be in. As soon as I start drawing a few lines, the shape invites me to see what I need to draw next to keep the composition balanced. And little by little the composition is created.

He was born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1973. My father was born in Sardinia, Italy and my mother in Belgium.
I started exploring "automatic drawing" during my art college years, through which I soon began to explore other mediums such as printmaking, sculpture, installation and video. Later, I felt the need to explore narrative and continued to make digital photo collages. From there I studied comics and illustration. I created an autobiographical graphic novel and published a few short comics, but I wanted to create again a "free" art work without any boundaries of expression. So in 2004 I started to create abstract "amorphous" drawings again using the "automatic drawing method". In 2005, I visited a painter friend's house and saw his surrealist paintings hanging on the wall. The use of symbols in surrealist painting
invited me to begin a series, "Imaginary Rooms," which is still in progress. For me the "automatic drawings" are a kind of diary, but I hope to communicate with the viewers of these drawings.
