Concept

Kei Aoi has been confronting "nature, self, self, and ego" through the creation of realistic paintings infused with life.

For her, "nature" is a physical phenomenon that she has been able to capture through the powers of observation she has cultivated through her work.
Through the quantum phenomena that accompany these phenomena, she has come to realize that "nature" is not a simple thing, but an entanglement of various phenomena.
She positions a part of "nature" as "herself," and further analyzes "self" in terms of two concepts: the "self (which is the other)," which is an identity formed from the environment and values other than "myself," and the "ego," which remains after removing all the "self" from "myself.

In this solo exhibition, Aoi will present works that she has painted over the past year in order to confront "nature/self/self/ego" and to understand the world, herself, and the connection between the two.

Artist Statement

As I continued to confront "realism," I realized that "realism is a field that can depict not only what can be seen, but also what cannot be seen, and can make the viewer feel it. I realized that "realism is a field that can depict not only the visible, but also the invisible, and make us feel it.
From there, I became fascinated by the precision of the "real," which is the source of the cut-outs, and I began to want to understand more about the "real" and immerse myself in its beauty.

The meaning of my work is "to realize this, to consider it, and for the romance that leads me to the fusion of the self and the Real.
And when the "life" is breathed into the "work" as a byproduct, I would be very happy if it resonates with someone who comes face to face with it and makes them tremble.

Born in Gifu Prefecture.

Her works vary in style and motif, but all of them are filled with her love and curiosity.
She draws what moves her.
Some of his works simply depict things that he likes, but his main realistic paintings are also based on his curiosity about "reality.
Breathing life into pictures" has been my theme for the past few years, but today I believe that "the result of trying to see reality" is also a theme.
I am capturing on canvas as realism the world as seen by a person who is searching for what the true reality is.
