9s Gallery by TRiCERA is pleased to present"Kohaku", agroup exhibition bypainterNabiyi Haraand sculptorYuu Minamimura from November 8 to 14, 2022.

About the Artists
Nabiyi Hara is a young painter currently enrolled at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, who develops two-dimensional works based on the theme of "violence and eroticism. She uses comical oil paintings influenced by comic cartoons to express the instinctive violence and desires of humans that we want to cover up.
Yu Minamimura creates sculptures made of marble. His work is based on the theme of "What do people seek and want to achieve as human beings?
Recently, he has been developing works with the keyword "what it means to love" in order to know people.
He works with marble, metal, ceramics, stone clay, and other materials to create three-dimensional and two-dimensional works.

Artists' Statements
Hara Nabbie
Hara says, "I am influenced by underground culture and manga. The expression of manga is a mixture of stillness and movement, and I want to somehow incorporate that manga space into my paintings.
I believe that the essence of human nature is expressed in our instinctive nature. For a while, I wondered why humans wear clothes. I value the idea that the paintings are erotic, yet classy."

Yu Minamimura
There are things that we fear or dislike because we don't understand them well. I want to be able to love such things first of all. When I was in Australia, I saw a sheep cloud flowing all the way to the horizon, and I thought that a cloud is a visualization of a mass of energy, and that it resembles a human being.
I chose stone, a material that can express the form I have in mind, and I create my works with the idea that knowing a person or thing is itself an act of love."

Kohaku Exhibition
On the surface, the expressions of Hara and Minamimura appear to be completely different vectors. However, there are commonalities in their motivations. They are " human nature" and"acts of concealment. Hara sees violence and uncontrollable impulses in human nature and tries to expose them. Furthermore, by referring to the context of manga in the layers of expression, he achieves a unique expression that is not limited to immediate reflection.
In contrast, Minamimura may be positioning something gentler in human nature. However, by embracing it with an indefinite cloud and "hiding" it in opposition to Hara, he aims at the act of loving it and knowing it in his own way.
The act of "hiding"/"exposing" common to the two artists' unique approaches is entrusted to the title " Kohaku.
