    Description

    Caryatide refers to a carved humanoid pillar. Four braids are engraved on the pillar made by carving camphor in all directions. It looks like the color is scattered by applying the masking tape, but the positioning is performed based on the rule that one of the three bundles in each braid is colored. Visually, the scattered colors make the image appear to be dispersed from the lump. We are thinking of reconstructing the structure by carving the stitches to dissolve the clump of wood. This actually defeats the use of a chisel to groove the mass, but it is interesting to incorporate the conflicting production activities of carving a motif that adds strength to the fiber, which is a stitch. In addition, the title was chosen because it frees the sculpture from the building.

    Concept

    Momoko creates her work under the theme of 'tree'. She makes sculptures with a slight shift in the viewpoint of 'wood' such as building materials, architecture, trees, preparations, fibers, and paper rather than using wood as a sculpture material. Recently, she has produced a series on architectural themes collaborating pillars, slopes, and temporary construction. She wants to create a work of wood that includes decay and changing shape. Her feeling towards wood is inspired by her grandfather, who runs a store specializing in decorative timber. Her experience surrounded by wood at a young age leads to her current style of work.
