    Description

What is Ukiyo-e Quote Banknote Collage Painting
It is a contemporary art that uses traditional banknotes, gold and silver foils from around the world with ukiyo-e motifs on large themes such as civilization, nation, history and capitalist society, using money → real banknotes as collage material.
Neo-pop art that adds decorativeness to Ukiyo-e, a Japanese pop art, using concept art and traditional Japanese craft techniques.
It is also characterized by its current affairs and satire that cut out the current international economy. At the core is a symbolic expression of the era when cash disappears and digital money turns. It is a conceptual painting that combines the symbolism of civilization theory, the reality of modern capitalism, the position of art history in Ukiyo-e, and critical satire and quoted paintings based on them.
The state guarantees the originality of the work in which the same bill number cannot exist in the title of the work.
By quoting the concept of Ukiyo-e, in which the same composition is used to create different colors of the printed version, the composition is common, but all are unique pieces by banknotes and colors. The screen collage of banknotes uses the method of AutomaticPainting, which can never make the same pattern.
    Original picture explanation
"Kanagawa Okamiura" quoted is one of 46 views of Katsushika Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. One of the most famous Japanese art works known in the world.
His influence on Western art history, such as Japonism and the Impressionism, is significant. Even in contemporary art, Julian Opie has published works influenced by Ukiyo-e, and has an enormous influence even today.
The author regards this work as a masterpiece of the iconic image of Hokusai = Japanese nature religion. Modern religion is money compared to the Edo period. It also implies a historical layer of Japanese religion, as well as the era of cash disappearing with digital money. The economy is changing like a creature, sometimes at the mercy of human beings, and sometimes at giving energy.

  • About this artist

    Concept

There are 3 key phrases to Kei Hinotani's work; idolized art in the 21st century, meditation, and TARTAROS JAPAN. The range of what he considers to be an idol, which is his first keyphrase, is wide and it is including most objects that people worship such as myths, religions, symbols, nations, currency exchange systems, and subcultures. Therefore his work tends to be mysterious that even the artist himself cannot solve. 2nd keyphrase, meditation, is important to his as he uses channeling-based visionary sessions, and language sessions to create his works. His 3rd keyphrase, TARTAROS, is a world of the god of Greek mythology where life is created and returns. JAPAN is the end of Oriental civilization. Even if civilization separates in the east and west, a world integrated under the ground is the symbol of TARTAROS JAPAN. Kei believes that TARTAROS JAPAN is a symbolic name that shows the fundamental power of art from a perspective freed from modern individualism.
