Das Unheimliche (uncanny) is a psychological concept developed by various authors, mainly by Sigmund Freud. In theory it culminates in our anxiety when something that is familiar to us becomes odd, strange, eerie, frightening when a hidden meaning is added to it that we were not aware of. So we find ourselves confronted with something that frightens us even though it is something that we are very familiar with. Twenty years ago I created an artwork about it and since this feeling of “uncanny” has been with me my whole life I wanted to recreate that artwork with new eyes and “Unheimlich 2” is the result.
