    Description

As an artist, I think about the layers that obstruct creativity. My current art series ‘theArtist’ is about stripping away obstacles to clear the path for creativity. In this series, I invite the viewer to step into my world by flipping the script, showing the artists’ perspective of looking from the inside out.

    NEW WORKS COMING SOON!

Yadi is a painter, sculptor & mixed media artist from America. She is a self-instructed fine art artist who loves the challenge of mixing materials that might not otherwise be considered companions. Color is perhaps the greatest challenge in her work which she gets her best results by laying and building upon canvas. Most of her work is driven by recurring dreams. One of her favorite techniques is cutting glass and working with cement, which ended in lung failure in 2009, and again in 2010.

In 2009, Yadi went into an involuntary sabbatical causing the closing of her Gallery. She replaced art with completing a degree in computer science. It was a slow process as she began mending from a series of unfortunate events from personal loss and very serious health issues. During the seven years of studio absence, it was a time of reassessing life and discovering a new perspective on creating artwork that had no negative effect on her health. She had to discover new materials and new ways to infuse texture into her work. Algebra was the catalyst for taking her back into the studio where she began the journey of exploring new mediums. She earned her degree in computer science with honors in 2014 and returned to the studio to create new works in 2015.

Isolation due to the pandemic and the upheaval across the planet took Yadi upon a new journey of creativity. Her new body of work focuses on confinement and freedom; not only in how we think outside the box but how we move the box altogether. As an African American artist in America, she understands the power of twisting, turning, and adjusting her vision, her life, and her performance to achieve greatness. She feels her life has always been adjustable therefore with the crisis of 2020 – 2021 presents nothing new. It is the world outside her blackness who must learn to adjust. Using a surrealistic style, in both sculpture and canvas, her work is an “I can't breathe” moment for the world.
