Born in Yokohama in 1982, Maki Matsuzawa’s formal studies culminated with a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Joshibi University of Art and Design. She won the Paris Award from the university in 2011, and then traveled to France to le arn more about classic techniques. Matsuzawa has since developed her skills through a unique style that focuses on the clarity of the oil paints. Matsuzawa’s art focuses on the amazing moments of life in nature. She wishes to create a painting one can experience. “While painting is a visual artform, I hope to create art that lets the viewer feel the wind and smell the air within the painting. I strive to become a better painter; an artist who can create paintings that bring back lost memories, a painting that pulls at your heartstrings.”
