Aran Yasuoka is a Japanese female painter who majored in design at Tokyo University of the Arts. She depicts playful images of imaginary creatures that are a mix between animals and robots. The characteristic of Yasuoka’s artwork is combining contrasting elements such as life and mechanics, past and future. She is drawn to robots as she is interested in future technology. When Yasuoka saw Bosatsu sculptures with different pieces of wood joined with metal pieces, she felt the same attraction to the sculptures that she felt with robots. The artist realized that she was interested in the connection between the past and the present.
