ウィアーの絵画へのアプローチは、スコットランド、オランダ、日本、ハンガリー、ドイツなど、住んだことのある国の影響を受けています。2005年以降は、英語を母国語としない国に住んでいます。2005年からは、英語が母国語ではない国に住んでいます。書かれた言葉も話された言葉も理解できない都市で生活した経験は、使用されているイメージを通して彼の作品に反映されています。ウィアーは、認識可能な形態と抽象的な形態の間の相互作用を作り出すことを楽しんでいます。慣れ親しんだものと異質なもの。彼は、言語や神話的な象徴などのシンボルと、それに含まれるさまざまな意味との関係に魅了されています。私たちが作り、修正し、廃棄するこれらのコミュニケーションシステムは、はかない性質を持っています。個々の言葉は本来の意味を失って変化し、使う人によって異なる意味を持つこともある。言語全体が失われたり、発見されたり、作られたりする。かつてはタブーであった、あるいは進歩的であったシンボルは無意味なものとなる。これらの矛盾した、はかないアイデアは、彼にとって混乱とユーモアと幸福のポイントである。ウィアーの作品は、絵の具の層、モチーフ、拾った物、テキストなどのコラージュを通して、これらの感情を共有する方法である。
