Thomas proviene da un background ingegneristico; ha lavorato come attrezzista e disegnatore nell'industria aeronautica prima di intraprendere finalmente una carriera nelle Belle Arti. Anche se questo background ingegneristico è stato determinante nel plasmare le sue prospettive, ponendo le basi per la sua meticolosa attenzione ai dettagli e alla pazienza, che ha portato alle sue posizioni creative/di insegnamento.
Ha una vasta esperienza nei settori dell'istruzione superiore e ulteriore nel Regno Unito e in Asia, tra cui l'insegnamento presso la Newcastle University, il Bradford College of Art & Design, il Newcastle College, il Gateshead College, il Raffles design Institute di Bangkok e l'Asian University in Thailandia.
Come artista praticante, Thomas è impegnato in un rigoroso sviluppo e rivalutazione della sua pratica che è caratterizzata da una volontà di rivedere il suo pensiero durante il suo sviluppo, il che gli conferisce entusiasmo ed estro sostenuto da una rigorosa esecuzione.
