    Description

The artist stains the canvas, once the surface is prepared, he stands in front of it and observes it... he sees the cross, he understands why it is marked... he also sees a tree, and there is no other option. He cannot stop seeing these images, he has to bring to light what the stain has already shown. And he travels, and begins to remember... "from my childhood, the crucifixion made me feel something very strong, Christ always symbolized for me everything that was right, beyond faith, ideology or religion..." with that innocence of a child, seeing a person nailed to a cross, appearing so real, generated in him endless feelings. And he tells me "to this day, every time I enter to a church, I go straight to see the crucificion. There are many churches I have visited in different parts of the world, but the best representation is still the crucificcion of the church in my neighborhood, from my childhood". MC

  • About this artist

    Concept

Juan Del Balso was born in Mendoza, Argentina in 1978.
Since his most tender years he has devoted himself to drawing, glimpsing his artistic personality, but before defining himself as a sculptor and painter, Del Balso goes through various trades, such as artisan, making jewelry and dream catchers that he sells in the squares; that of a wall painter, for residents of the neighborhood; or the one of restorer and creator of furniture, in the workshop of Arcidiácono. He also dabbles in music, and is part of several bands.
In 2005 he traveled to settle in Italy for a period of 6 years, where he managed to have his own workshop in the Santo Spirito neighborhood. His way of making art is enriched with live knowledge of the great works of the Renaissance, and a period of artistic experimentation begins that leads him to work on classical and figurative sculptures, to gradually detach himself from that strong influence and begin to carry out works where the line and shape speaks for themselves.
In 2012 he began a series of drawings and paintings in black and white, where his eagerness to express his vision of the world was transformed into magnificent drawn tales, in characters and situations intertwined by ink and enclosed in the lait motif of each work.
Also continues with his series of spots, which, although they have accompanied him since the beginning of his career, it is at this moment that, together with his drawings and paintings, they acquire a maturity and a solidity that transmit and move.
