    Description

    I enjoyed using a canvas support for this painting because I wanted it to have loads of texture built onto it with sand mixed into the gesso base. In order to create the 'swirls' of the flower, this was applied with a palette knife and then allowed to dry.
    I wanted to feel the sense of churning seas beneath the visible waves, but also realised that this image could be almost viewed from space watching a storm approach. A big inspiration behind this is the song 'Hello Earth', by Kate Bush, where she feels herself above the earth and viewing the turbulent clouds and winds from space.

    Sand and paint have created the texture here.

    What kind of hardware should I use for hanging the artwork?

    • If you are concerned about repayment costs, such as when renting a house, wall pins and hooks that do not leave noticeable hole marks are available at major DIY Store and art supply stores.
    • If you want to hang a canvas with a hook, a hook type with a long hooking surface, such as a V-shaped type is recommended.
    • If there is a string on the back of the canvas or the back of the frame, you can hang it with a pin type that has a short hooking surface.
