    Description

Kensho 見性 is a Japanese term from the Zen tradition. It means seeing one's (true) nature, to find one’s true self.

A magnificent collection of 5 paintings which can either be sold as a pair of three’s or individually. The paintings are layered with silver leaf richly textured with colors like black, grey, and pink. All the colors in the painting hold individual meaning. Kensho is one of my few collections. It reflects my efforts in trying to strive in life, to maintain some balance in it.

I’m a mixed media artist living my life while juggling being a mother of two, being a full-time artist and all the while dodging lemons life throws at me. Painting is like a coping mechanism for me. It is a source of expressing my emotions. It’s an escape, a holiday from life and it’s never-ending challenges and harsh realities.

This body of work represents me, my emotions. Like a caged bird wanting to be freed. The pink and white colors are me and the black and grey surrounding me is my own shell. And the paintings as a whole represent my struggles, me trying to get a little out of my own shell which has overtime consumed me and made me into a shy and quiet person.

When painting this picture I was listening to the classic old romantic Moon River by Andy Williams and while I kept on painting a strange happy feeling grew in me and I just knew that this painting, THIS PAINTING will be it. All those hours, all those nights spent painting trying to find my self was over. And at last after so many layers and layers of mistakes, I finally found me.

  • About this artist

    Concept

Art is not a birth given talent, and Kelly Ng Shah is a prime example of that. None of her family members were artistic let alone interested in the field. She would start with craft work such as knitting, rug making, and clay work at the age of five, spending hours and hours matching the colored yarns to create distinctive crafts. That combination of knits, colors, and eagerness to express her inner self drew her to sketching and painting. Her love for watercolors, oil, soft pastels, charcoal, and resin caused her to enroll herself in both public and private education to learn different techniques. Bold colors, multi-layering, shading, and the use of gold and silverleaf characterize Kelly’s paintings, which are best expressed via acrylics. A prominent and careful eye for colors stands out in every painting, reflecting her personality. Bolder choices of colors with sharp defined areas within the canvas highlight her numerous obstacles in life that she conquered through her creative outlet.
