Lamp (2021) is a digital artwork that impresses with the light stored in a large umbrella. The work is the result of a trial-and-error process involving the artist's hands and a trivial fantasy of what it would be like if beings like mushrooms and trees in the natural world were glowing lamps. The silhouettes of the umbrellas and the warm colors of this graphic are impressive, and now we have produced it as a giclee print on water-laid wooden panels.
This work depicts a moment spent with an umbrella in the solitude of a jet-black dark night. The production process began with the selection of materials suitable for a picture with a restful atmosphere. After considering a variety of papers, the fine art paper "KAKITA," with its warm surface quality, was selected for this work, which was painstakingly finished with high-definition printing.
KAKITA is a domestically produced paper that is attractive for its soft texture due to the use of more than 45% cotton pulp as raw material. The depiction of the umbrellas, which give a gentle light in the picture, and the matte-textured black background that extends to the sides, create a beautiful harmony.
The surface of the work has an archival surface treatment that improves lightfastness and abrasion resistance, allowing the work to be displayed unframed with the surface exposed. Although the work is covered with wooden panels, it is lightweight, weighing approximately 400 grams. It is also 2 cm thick.
The work comes with a certificate of authenticity certifying that it is giclee, supervised by the artist.
