Aurelija Kairyte-Smolianskiene creates aquarells, ink and oil on canvas paintings with dreamy images of flying people reaching for the sky. Aurelija's technique primarily involves the use of watercolour and oil on canvas, combined to get an aesthetically pleasing synergy of colour and form.
Living in an animal farm deep within Lithuanian countryside, surrounded by velvet lakes and untamed woods, her inspiration comes from nature, local folktales and fantasies they arouse.
Her work is full of details portraying organic materials like grass, flowers, berries, leaves, fur, fish scales and bird feathers. The colours are very vibrant and lively.
Aurelija’s paintings are vivid and colourful, very often with a woman or a girl figure in focus. Babies and centaurs, the astrological sign sagittarius, riders, unicorns and soldiers – all play their magical part in her colorful universe. Some of the people’s faces look sad, distressed or angry. The images often have beautiful animals: horses, foxes, cheetahs, wolves, deer, pisces, birds. She draws human faces with much detail. You might find many symbols within her art. Figurative and surrealistic images full of poetic and shamanic moods.
