Wesley Sats is a multifaceted Brazilian artist, whose creative journey began on January 16, 1993, in the city of Cabo de Santo Agostinho, metropolitan region of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. Born and raised in the Charnequinha neighborhood, amid socioeconomic difficulties and challenges associated with crime in the region, Wesley Sats found refuge in art from a young age.
With a passion for painting, design, sculpture and poetry, Wesley channeled his creativity through his artistic creations, inspired by his favorite cartoons and his desire to escape the difficult reality that surrounded him.
However, his life took a painful turn in 2014 when he lost his older brother to neighborhood violence. This tragic event marked the beginning of a series of artworks, which he described as "The illusion of a colorful world in black and white". These creations were characterized by the predominance of black on the canvas, symbolizing his mourning and the harrowing experiences he faced. Some observers have identified woodcut influences in his work, and the painting style he developed at that time continues to be present in his works to this day.
Wesley Sats, in his own words, describes his creations as "Formism", a fusion of forms that encompass distinct lines. Artistic expression became a way to vent your emotions and life experiences.
Wesley Sats' artistic career also faced financial challenges, as a lack of resources prevented him from acquiring the necessary tools to continue his projects. To overcome this difficulty, he decided to learn music, playing drums and guitar on weekends with musician friends in local bars and concert halls, in order to obtain resources for his artistic materials and help his family financially.
Over the years, he persevered in his journey as a musician and, with determination, managed to acquire his first canvases and painting accessories. This allowed him to bring his life experiences, thoughts and feelings into his works, filling every line and shape with the essence of his unique journey.
Through his dedication to art and facing personal challenges, Wesley Sats has emerged as a talented artist who uses a variety of forms of expression to share his story, his emotions and his worldview with the public. His art represents a journey of overcoming, resilience and creativity, demonstrating that passion and perseverance can transform adversity into opportunities for artistic expression and personal growth.
