Onuma draws subjects from all kinds of media without restraint, and his paintings cover a wide range of subjects. In addition to orthodox themes such as landscapes, figures, and still-lifes, he sometimes draws inspiration from old wall stains or whale cries to create new images.
After about 10 years of study, Onuma has mastered the method of expression that integrates and simplifies the use of light and shadow in Western figurative painting before the 19th century and the outlines found in Oriental ink painting and ukiyo-e.

This style strips away the model's original characteristics, qualities, nationality, gender, and all other elements that shape her existence to reveal a simple color puzzle-like figure. Structurally, the work is extremely unstable, and the slightest misalignment can lead to the collapse of the entire picture plane.
The painter is trying to thoroughly expose the fragility and vulnerability inherent in art in his own unique way.

For him, a painting is not something sublime or lovely, but rather a kind of excrement that the mediocre brain, unable to store the vast amount of images it sees in its daily life, has to throw up in its agony.
And the paintings, which at first glance seem to be easily blown away, exist in a precarious equilibrium in a modern society that can be called a cesspool of images.
