Sorachi Kyodo is a painter from Japan. His name is derived from the words of Lao Tzu, an ancient Chinese thinker, and Zen thought.
He tries to express the vastness, the eternal and unchanging life force.
Influenced by Van Gogh, Picasso and Jackson Pollock, he is also inspired by his native Japan, the Azuchi-Momoyama culture of the 1600s, Nikko Toshogu Shrine, a World Heritage Site, and Saihoji Temple in Kyoto.
In particular, he is strongly influenced by the eccentric painters of the Edo period such as Hokusai, Jakuchu and Soga Shohaku, the Jomon culture that began 15,000 years ago, Kazuo Shiraga, a central figure in the GUTAI movement, and the contemporary artist Tadanori Yokoo.
He considers this to be a powerful, drastic, and wildly disruptive form of beauty, and hopes to inherit and express another energetic and powerful lineage of Japanese culture that is different from wabi-sabi.

He refuses to be intellectually clever in order to express something that is beyond himself. He cherishes the traces of physicality and matiere, the unexpected inspiration and the unnameable X-factor that appear while he paints without knowing what kind of work it will be, and continues to respond to the colors and lines demanded by the work in progress. It is his production style.
