Martin's training and background is actually as a jazz musician but he has always painted. "I've always loved the spark of creativity. That moment where boredom, fear and curiosity just seem to collide." These days he works as a songwriter of popular music and the painting is his release from the tensions that at times he encounters in his songwriting.

"For me, Art and Music go hand in hand and I could no longer abandon either of them than I could breathing. I'm in love with the abstract. For me, it's all about flow. Creativity with impunity. Not burdened or concerned by judgement from the viewer or most of all my harshest critic, myself".

He always work with large scale pieces applying acrylic paints using his fingers and hands, or a trowel or brushes. His practice thrives on the freedom of movement with long swaying arcs of his arms over canvas.

"I paint not just because I want to. I paint because I need to. There's nowhere else I'd rather be".
