I’ve been a professional practicing artist for over 30 years working across a range of media.

Whilst painting has always been part of my practice, in 2017 I made the decision to fully concentrate on painting as my chosen medium. I find the discipline of painting an exciting challenge that opens up whole new fields of research into the subject of painting. Developing my skills through observation, experimentation, and media, I work in both acrylic and oil paint.

To begin with I used my own textile sculptures as subject matter and made several series of paintings in acrylics, ‘Textile Works’, ‘Goddess Series’ and ‘Hanging Forms’ followed by series in oils, ‘Protective Amulet Series’, ‘Excursions into Abstraction’ and ‘Found Plastic Paintings’.

In my current series of oil paintings I am working in my studio from sketches made al fresco in my garden, aiming to capture its atmosphere as a place with its own uncanny presence and my absorption in this ‘green’ realm.

I have always felt the need to respond to what is going on around me and I try to bring some of that into my paintings as a series of meditations. Research is an important part of my practice, the themes and subject matter are dynamic and subject to change, as new connections surface across the body of the work.

I’m an experienced professional artist with over three decades making art, exhibiting and curating.

I attended Liverpool School of Art at 18 and I’ve been a studio-based artist for over 20 years. I gained my Master’s degree with distinction from Liverpool John Moores University in 2010.

I have been exhibiting my work since the 1980’s working closely with art galleries and museums across the UK to develop vibrant multi-media exhibitions.

In 2005 I won the 3D prize from the Turnpike Gallery, Leigh and the Lancashire Art Prize in 2005 and 2007. In 2018 I was selected for Beep International Painting Prize and was a selected artist for the Greater Manchester Art Prize in 2016 and 2019.

I have held solo exhibitions across Northern England including Gallery Oldham, Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk, Calver Gallery, Leeds and held a major retrospective this year at Gallery One, St Helens. I exhibit my work regularly at venues across the UK.

Based in the North West of England, I work from my studio at Cross Street Arts, a charitable organization I established from 1999 that provides a base for over 40 artists in the region.
