My practice is rooted on surrealistic and abstract approach of painting. I have an overactive imagination so most of my creations are conjured up in my sleep and when I wake up, I will relay them on the canvas or sketch for ideas. I feel deeply when using bright bold colours that is usually accompanied with thick textures. I first started doing psychedelic paintings in 2017 to help quiet my mind and slowly went out of my comfort zone experimenting with fluid art and mixed media. Most of my psychedelic creations come from a loud colourful place within myself that I feel the need to express wildly to secure my mental health, I consider this my forte compared to my other work. My creations usually consists of distorted side profiles, mythical creatures, vivid swirls, bizarre animals and unreal situations. As for pouring painting, it’s one of my favourite studies and have quite linked up to my favour of irrational reality. My mixture and sway of colours is never the same twice and has helped me understand composition further as a self taught painter. After a few years on experiments with fluid art and mix media has led me to opening new doors in abstract art which has helped me develop a sense of feeling and less on thinking. My abstract pieces contrasts to my other paintings as I usually project not more that 3 colours on a canvas. In a way, abstract art has taught me to be more minimalistic and to conquer the loudness that’s going on in my head. This has helped me so much in self development as painter and understanding myself deeper. The projections in my creations are mostly imaginary, in a way its letting ones consciousness escape to a place that is surreal for myself and my audience. I consider myself a realist this is why I tend to go towards surrealism and expressionism when it’s just between me, my paints and the canvas.

Emy Tahir, 34, a Bruneian self-taught artist that has been in the art industry since 2017. She first started painting for therapy purposes and from there fell passionately into the art world which has lead her to become a committed artist. She has since then been selling her artwork locally and internationally including clients from Brunei Darussalam, United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Malaysia and Ireland under her brand name 'Gelos'. She works mostly with acrylic, oil, charcoal and paper for her mediums. Her work consists of a mixture of psychedelic, surrealism, expressionism, fluid art, mixed media and also abstracts. At the moment she is more focused on experimenting with mixed media and abstracts on deciphering strong color combinations and how it affects herself and her audience. She was invited to University of Malaya Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for her first exhibition and was also present at Arts for All Belfast exhibition at John Luke Gallery, Norther Ireland. Coming September 2021 will be the launch of her first solo exhibition held in Brunei Darussalam.
