Concept

Horiuchi uses the motif of "the universe" in her mixed media works. The universe is an absolute existence, but its reality is still largely unknown. For Horiuchi, the universe is an elusive and mysterious space that no one can approach, and it seems to have given birth to an urge to strike out at the universe with all his might. It is an attempt and a challenge to express the universe in a visual world. He feels that the fundamental energy of the universe is a great movement for survival, and he hopes to connect this movement with the imagination of human beings. When people confront the universe, they are freed from the minutiae of everyday life and embrace a rich imagination, and his works will help them to do so.

Biography

1946 Born in Tokyo 1972 Graduated from Tokyo Zokei University and studied bronze casting at Tagore International University in India. 1974 Moved his production base from Tokyo to Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, and began making small works in bronze casting. 1989 - 2022: Starting with the creation of objects for a community center in Matsuyama City, he has installed sculptures, murals, and monuments in over 90 public facilities in Japan. 1990~2008 Established the Global Culture Center (GCC) to provide a venue for overseas presentations and artist exchanges, and held the "International Group Show (IGS)," an art event hosted by the GCC, in 10 cities around the world.
