With a figurative exploration and the human figure at the center of the scene Marcos Herrera makes use of different mixed techniques. The idea is not to paint in between preset boundaries, but finding them as the painting goes on.
Charcoal, oil, spray painting, pastels or ink rest in his toolbox waiting to have their chance to be used. Monochromatic or wide open palette compositions seem to have a story telling essence, that in many cases is completed with an evocative title.
Enriched with literature references and with a little bit of humor all of these paintings are windows that invite the observer to have a glimpse to Marcos inner world. We never know what comes next. An apple-faced millennial with a little bit of Magritte taste, or a flamingo balloon that suddenly makes us think about Alice in Wonderland.
The style does not seem to be something that is looked up, but something that appears by having full use of freedom in every artwork and followed by a skillful, fearless hand. With a pop, surrealistic and classic art background, this artist has a lot more to give.
