He established the architectural design office "Shinsozai Kenkyusho" in 2008 and the Odawara Cultural Foundation in 2009; in October 2017, the Odawara Cultural Foundation <Enoura Weather Station> was opened. 1988 Mainichi Art Award; 2001 Hasselblad International Photography Award; 2009 Praemium Imperiale Prince Takamatsu Memorial World Culture Prize (painting category). He was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 2010, the Order of Arts and Letters of France in 2013, and the Order of Cultural Merit in 2017.
