Nansei Sakagami is a Tokyo-based painter. He is known for his elegant Japanese paintings, which are a strong representation of Japanese culture. He also specializes in oil and watercolor paintings, and creates works that incorporate his own unique techniques, with a very wide range of styles, including Japanese and Western, classical and contemporary. In his youth, along with his interest in Western painting, he was also interested in Japanese literature and became familiar with classics such as The Tale of Genji, Manyoshu, and waka poetry. During his college years, while energetically studying oil painting, he began self-study in Japanese painting. His interest in the world of Yamato-e increased, and he began to pursue "Yamato-e style modern painting in oil." He discovered the beauty of Japanese mineral pigments and became completely fascinated by the beauty of gold and silver leaf mud. He continued to learn Japanese painting on his own and created many elegant Yamato-e works using classical techniques. He also pursues his own original creations, painting contemporary art using classical Japanese painting techniques. His colorful and urban watercolor paintings have been used as illustrations for newspaper serials and booklets. He also incorporates original techniques developed over many years of creative work and is truly one-of-a-kind. My dream and hope is to be a painter who can bring cheer, joy, dreams, and hope to those who see my work."
