I have always loved water. The calming sound of waves rolling in, the hypnotic movement, the way the light dances as the sun hits its surface. I love the feeling of floating, being surrounded and held. When I was little, being in water gave me respite from my worries and I felt momentarily free.
Throughout history, water has been used as a symbol of int
uition, strength, depth, reflection, creativity and cleansing. Water has long been considered a ‘feminine’ element; it is gentle and flowing, as well as powerful and intense.

Inspired by aerial photographs, I use texture, pigments and water in my art to emulate organic rock formation and the depth and movement of water. I wanted to make a collection of art that makes you pause and take a deep breath, which is how I create my paintings: slowly and mindfully, in counterbalance to the rush of modern life.
Each layer is created by drenching the surface with water and pigment, the depth and pattern of the paint only revealing itself when the water evaporates. There is an element of unpredictability to the process, and I love having to respond to each stage of the painting, rather than having a pre-planned outcome.

Water is vital to every living organism on this planet; it connects us all. Wherever water flows, life springs up within and around it. I want my art to be an anchor to your personal connection with water, whatever that may be. I’d love it to calm you, to refresh you, to remind you of a past adventure, to inspire you to dream about adventures to come.
