Concept

Aya Sophie is a contemporary abstract and symbolism artist that works with movement and layers in her art. She takes advantage of her background of having lived in the United States, New Zealand, and her own country, Japan, to create her own unique style and atmosphere. She uses acrylics, Japanese washi, some pouring techniques and stencils in her art with a varnish finish to create that ethereal feel in her abstracts. She uses depth of color and harmony to create layers in her symbolism art. "I believe that my paintings are a window into another world. I am sharing a world I see with the eyes of my heart. I want to bring a world to a person's soul that builds up and heals, a world you can sit in and experience and feel the atmosphere that it may touch something deep in one's heart."

Biography

1968 Born in Osaka, Japan
1978 Spent a year in California, USA
1992 Moved to Oregon, graduate school at Oregon University.
1993 Moved to California, USA.
1994 Moved to Kyoto, Japan.
1997 Moved to New Zealand, schooling and later full-time staff at Lifeway Bible College, heart nurtured here to to paint and draw.
2004 Moved back to Osaka, Japan. Painting courses taken from Barry John Raybould, Will Kemp Art School.
2016~Present Joined Created to Thrive, artist mentoring program based in USA directed by Matt Tommey
2018 Abstract painting course taken from Amy Smith.
2019~Present Art mentoring by Jan Tetsutani
